Is this out of key? too weird? etc. (keys over the top).

It's a little sloppy I know (just a recorded practice part), just testing, but I added some keys to this one bridge type part- geetarist is a stay on the dots type guy, claims it weird. I think of the band as almost pop in how normal and commercial we are. It's "hard rock" I guess.

anyway - what say ye? too weird? Not weird enough (what I think), boring as all hell? kill Blisshead for wasting our time? I need opinions. thanks. I need to make sure I'm not 1)an idiot 2)going deaf 3)just insane

thanks!

It could probably stand a little refining - some of the notes you end phrases on seem slightly unmusical. I also don't think the piano sound really works here, but perhaps the song would be better served with a screaming guitar sound doing this basic melody.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I appreciate the thoughts.

Some context would maybe help - there is, or will be anyway, a screaming guitar solo right after the piano part. It's supposed to be sort of calm and tense? if that makes sense? I don't have any more of it saved though.

I think it's fine - sounds good to me. I agree that you guys are pretty mainstream and could use some more interesting parts such as that.

i also think it sounds good. kind of unexpected. takes typical heavy distorted guitar riffage to a different place.

Cool, thanks for listening.

I will tighten it up if we record for real.

I love how the bass works against the guitar, but with it at the same time. Doesn't makes sense, but though it's simple, you create some interesting subharmonies.

I think it could be weirder. I think it should keep this rock vibe, but have sections where things get really ****ing loopy, but come back to sanity. It would blow mindsssss (/Jack black mode).

The keys were a little over the top, but I think its because they weren't played live placed in the mix with everything, but were added later. Maybe a different voice as well, the tone was a bit 80s.

I like it though, everything sounds great tonally, I actually really like the guitarists tone, it's a very clean distortion.

I dig it. Reminds me of my last band. Mainstream songs with enough weirdness to keep the musicians interested.

I think its a nice little line. But I would use a different patch on the keyboard. Maybe something with a little less of a hard edge than that piano. I can't really suggest what though I'd have to hear it to know.

the piano comes in as unexpected, which i think is great. i think you should keep it. though to me a few of the notes seemed out of tune? i like the song so far.

I had some smooth strings but the singer really wanted that piano, I'll change it anyway, I think you guys are right about that.

I believe that even though the piano line could be refined a little more, it makes the song and the sound of the band in general more interesting. Keep it up!

If this is only a small part in the song, and especially if there are lots of distorted rhythm guitars in the rest of the song, I would remove the guitars completely from this part, make the part very clean with just the piano playing the melody, the bass and the drums playing a laid-back groove (with lots of toms), and some soft pad or strings in the background. After the part you could add everything else like before and maybe also a screaming guitar solo...

Just an idea... but in my head it sounds like it could work.

That's the thing about piano, it has to be the real thing, or a super good simulation in order to sound good.

Agreed, also, they are much louder than they should be in the snippet, I could put them "in' the mix a lot more with a little work for the actual recording.
