The melodic material as well as the sample<s> is from Bela Bartok's "Music for String Instruments, Percussion, and Celeste", 2nd movement. It's long been one of my favorite pieces. It is without a doubt a 20th Century masterpiece.
It was also used as background music in "The Shining", but has never, ever, been played this funky. |

I'm assuming they are flatwounds? What a great sound he has when he plays! I bought their cd some time ago. Extremely good cd! I'd love to see fusion make a comeback like that! |

Absolutely love those clips! You know you're killin' it when Richard Bona is shaking his head in amazement. |

The bridge is worth a look as well. The top "horn" of the body also screams Sad. to me. Well ain't this fun!

Maybe opening a thread in the Basses section will turn up something? |

| | Registered User President, Baer Amplification | | | | | You gotta hear this clip with some high dollar headphones on...DAMN! Just goes to reinforce my belief that Pino is one of the very best bassist in the world. Pino (and Lee Sklar) is, IMO, one of those rare bassist that always plays the perfect part and plays it, well...perfectly! Thanks for posting this clip! |

I sure hope all you guys have or will check out the Jeff Beck DVD "Live at Ronnie Scott's" w/ Tal Wilkenfeld on Sadowsky ash J Bass. She's the 20 yr old player that Vinnie Colaiuta recruited to lock with, when Pino wasn't able to be in this rhythm section.(this for anyone not aware of it) Ya gotta hear her solo on "Cause We've Ended As Lovers"! If ya got "the phones" USE 'EM !!!
If ya can't access the DVD, search "Tal Wilkenfeld" & check out all the stuff on the video results page! (there's a different take of that solo - but TRY ta git the DISC.!!!
PS: Try the 6 channel sound, even w/ phones or 2 ch. speaker setup. (remember every time ya turn off your player it reverts back to reg. 2 channel.

I listened to and played a lot of 70's fusion and then got totally bored with it. Bela's Boogie has reignited the fusion passion for me.
If you haven't yet, check out their other stuff - Allegretto (based on a theme from Beethoven's 7th symphony) and their live album.
Check them out on Facebook to stay current.

He sounds so much like himself on anything he plays. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
