Question Paralyzer by Finger 11

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, I really wasn't sure where to put this thread. I didn't know if it really belonged in general instruction or as a tab request, as I'm not specifically looking for a tab - though if you want to answer my question in tab, that's fine.

I'm going to start covering this song on Saturday, which, is probably a smart idea, as this thing is most likely going to be the next "Crazy Bitch" for the club circuit. LOL It's definitely a groovy bass line. I have pretty much all of it down, even the crazy variation fills in the outro choruses that fall on off beats.

I'm having trouble with the small passage before the guitar interlude/solo and the bass line under the actual guitar interlude. The bass mix here is horrible, and I honestly can't decipher what's being played. That's kind of a bone-headed move on the producer's part, as this thing is THEE prototypical rock/danceclub crossover. Does anyone else cover this? Could you please steer me in the right direction of what's being played here? It sounds like it might be some variation of a root/b7 thing that dorian like many of these types of songs are based around. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've really never heard the bassline, I do like the funk guitar. Best pop song I've heard in a long time.. Can't you find a guitar pro tab?

I agree with the OP, the mix for the song is really really poor. Just make up whatever, it'll be alright.

Cool, I found a live Youtube video of them and the bass mix is really punchy and defined. I can hear now what the bass player's doing (and see a little bit of what he's doing).

Wow, this band is really mediocre live though. I know that they're not going to have all of those samples and synths live, but they're not really that tight and the singer goes out of key on the chorus. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2B8PeyTQWw

Worse bass mix here, but there is a quick shot of the bass player in the bridge section. The band's a lot tighter on this recording, but their vocalist is definitely not that great. He's talented but needs to seriously learn proper breathing technique.

Does anyone else think that the song is pretty damn similar to that franz ferdinand song take me out that was popular a few years ago? Everytime I hear the chorus its like the same thing.

Im not trying to bash you for playing this song because I know how popular it is and in a cover band you have to play to the crowd but am I the only one who thinks this song sucks! It has some of the worst lyrics I have ever heard. It's catchy and all but I cant bring myself to listen to the guy complain about a club that he wishes would close.

Sorry... Rant over.

God I'm getting to be a grumpy old fart. That song is the most annoying thing that has come out since Nickelback. It's made even worse by the fact my girlfriend loves the song.

I rarely pay attention to lyrics anymore.

BTW... one of my bands learned Kid Rock's "So Hott" at the same time we learned "Paralyzer". Compared to "So Hott", the "Paralyzer" lyrics are Shakespeare!

I think the name blows: Finger 11

I'm just going to assume that bands pick one random word, and one random number to come up with their name.

Yeah when I first heard it, I thought it was a remix or something.

Or, another suitable organ could be considered the 11th finger.

When I first heard it, it reminded me of a band out of Nashville, Groove Addiction, slighty simplified and cleaned up. I like the song, though.
