What's so cool is that after all these years he still uses his thumb, and he's so much more concerned with the PART instead of the technique, or the need to show off one's musical prowess. I love how he refers to fills as "fiddly bits"... it sounds like that term should refer to something else, but I'm not quite sure what....

Billionaire bass lessons, cool

For someone of his wealth & fame to take time out to do simple bass lessons is very cool.

What a stark comparison to these guys-

Playing less can mean more, make more money, and have greater impact on people.

There's an interview I just read with him where he was asked by a music store employee in NYC what kind of strings he uses, and he said " long shiny ones" because he really doesn't know. The anti-gearhead.

There's another video from the same session where he shows how he plays the same song with two guitar parts, doing the overdubs and showing the fingering and tabs for all three parts. This is the first of a four part video

FWIW, I've heard a few clips from the recent Quebec concert and his Hofner sounded wonderful.... full and deep, but clearly defined in the mix.

I forgot to mention how cool it is that he cheers on his bass as they're about to get going, like it's a bandmate. Too funny!

He really shows how he thinks of the song's whole picture and how less is so much more.

But at the same time, just because the average music listener can't appreciate the high art stylings of Jaco and Berlin doesn't in any way damage their music.

Let's not turn this into the Are Abstract Art Fans stupid? thread.

No, because I've never taken drugs in my life yet I listened to Weather Report's 1982 album all the way through yesterday, if you'd call that "abstract" because it's fusion. For what it's worth, I like Macca/The Beatles too.

I wasn't the one who insulted Jaco/Jeff there...
