PC Recording Issue

I just bought a 1/4" -> 1/8" adapter today at Radio Shack. I ran a cable from my Headphone out on my amp, and into my Microphone IN on my soundcard. I downloaded Audacity and began to record. Whenever I have my volume just a little bit up it distorts. Is this my sound card? IS there anyway to get better recording quality?

thanks

That's the problem I'm having too. I don't think there's a way to make it better. But I hope so.

Your Mic In is meant for low level signals - you're overdriving that input with the output from your Headphone jack. If your sound card has a "Line IN", use that instead of your Mic In.

it also will distort if you are running a hot preamp{9v,18v}at any significant volume level..if you have the option to turn off the active pre it will cut the output signal alot so you wont distort as much at higher volumes...but once again go through the line input not the microphone input
