Just curious - Does anyone thing any of their other albums ever measured up to Ten?

I like some of the other albums for sure, but something about Ten stands above the rest for me. The other thing is, although I dig Matt Cameron a lot, I always liked the drummer on Ten, I thought he was the perfect fit.

By the way, I don't have the disk with me. Who was the drummer on Ten anyway? I know they've gone through a few throughout the years. I think I remember that they replaced the drummer just as they went on their first tour, so I don't know if the drummer they toured with is the same on the album.

The drummer in Ten was Dave Kruesen...and he was AWESOME...please check out the version of porch they did in SNL (the video, if you can)...then came Dave Abrussezze, Jack Irons and Matt Cameron...i love everyone except matt, he just doesn't seem to have a true feel for the songs live...

Well...i think that the great thing about Pearl Jam is that no two records are the same...you have Ten, which defined the so-called "seattle sound", then Versus (my fav) was a complete turn, then by Vitalogy they got very artsy, No Code was raw energy, Yield was a more solid album, and Binaural was a great experiment...

I love Versus though...

Long live PJ!!!!!!!

All their records are cool. But I'd have to agree with Relman... Vs. is my personal fave. In my opinion it's just as good as ten if not better. It's heavier yet softer than their other records, and just killer all around. But after that I think No Code and Yield are very good. I'm too into Vitalogy and I still haven't bought Binaural. I've heard most of the tunes off it though, through the bootlegs and stuff but I guess I'll check it out sometime.

Hey relman when you first listened to Pearl Jam did you pick up how good jeff's lines were from the beginning? I didn't. It wasn't til maybe a year or so listening to them and seeing the Single Video Theory that I really starting to dig his lines. They're just PERFECT for the song both studio and live. I just wish they'd turn him up, cause I mean he's great. Definitely an underrated bassist.

Binaural is actually my favorite Pearl Jam album. 'Nothing As It Seems' is probably my favorite PJ song, but its definately hard to choose!
Ten is probably the definative PJ album, but it is probably the one I listen to least these days. Apart from Binaural, I would listen to 'Vs' and 'Yeild' the most.
I definately agree with Relman, every PJ album is completely different, each has a completely different feel to it. Thats what makes them so cool, you can never get bored with their sound.

I'm going to contend that Vitology is the best Pearl Jam album. I just think it rocks harder than any of the other albums. even Ten. Vs. and Yield are close behind though. and of course I love Ten, and No Code, and Binaural. I've always loved Live on Two Legs. So In other words, I like every single album. They are all so different it's hard to compare.

"Ten" remains my favorite Pearl Jam album. Little they have made since has done much for me. It might just be because of the time of my life when "Ten" came out.

One moves on. Pearl Jam moved on too. I guess I couldn't respect them if they'd put out every album as "Ten" with different names. They have dared to experiment and grow, but they and I grew apart in the process. That's Okay. They picked up many fans to replace me.

Hey, don't forget Dave Grohl toured with them for a while around '94. I love all the albums but Ten is the best, partly because of the period and the way the band gells. I think the version of GTF on Touring Band 2000 is really cool and I would like to see more with the interpreter. Jeff playing is one of the reasons I started playing. I'm in the process of defretting a bass to try and get his frettless sound.
