Perfect recordings

Sign in to disble this ad
Just wanted to throw this out there:

Fishbone's 1990 recording, 'Truth and Soul' is so good it makes me wanna cry . While funk, ska, and RnB are the dominant styles represented, there are actually so many other elements at work here...(prog, metal, punk, 80's new wave, VanHalen-esque guitar solos, etc...) and the thing is, all of these added elements are so subtle and done with such taste. Really, this disc is one of those magic moments where the artists can simply do no wrong...oh, and did I mention Norwood Fisher's bass playing??? Holy sh!t

I'm wondering what other recordings (could be any band, any style of music) TB'ers feel are borderline PERFECT.

Here's a few more of mine that I could probably write novels about:

Rush---Moving Pictures
Pink Floyd---Animals
Jaco Pastorius---Jaco Pastorius
John Coltrane---Giant Steps
J.S. Bach---Cello Suites (Paul Tortelier)

I'll give you five that currently blow my mind.

Prince: Purple Rain
Jeff Buckley: Grace
Queensryche: Operation Mindcrime
Tool: Aenima
Live: Throwing Copper

I am not sure any of those albums could be improved upon in any discernable manner.

Sadly.. Giant Steps was not perfect.. If it were perfect it would have been recorded by Rudy Van Gelder...

System of a Down "self titled" was always a perfect recording to me...
So was The Dillinger Escape Plan's "Calcultating Infinity"
