 hey guys,
i reciently in the past 6 months have become a pino finatic.... i take lessons from the guitar palyer that played with d'angello. he lives like 20 minutes from me.(i met him at the local jazz jam) anyway i was working on jamerson's tune "For Once In My Life" which i had to memorize...that was i biach and any of you jamerson finatics that likes standing in the shadows of motown knows that pino did a take of that tune. and anyway...so i was playing the tune and pino calls my teacher during the lesson and he says "hey p, listen to this...." and i played it for him...and after that i talked to him and we talked for a few minutes about jamerson and music in general and john mayer's new cd thats commin out soon. anyway after this i became "in love" with pino. i want to help others out with this music that i have unearthed.
these are just some of the albums that ive checked out. he's played on so many albums its rediculuous.
paul young: from time to time
go west: go west
d'angelo: voodoo
d'angelo: brown sugar
john mayer trio: try
these are some of the one's that are in my car right now
just thought id spread the good news about an amazing bass player that doesnt get enough respect.....oh the teacher i was talking about is on the track "try" on john mayer trio's cd try...and he recording with joss stone on her new album right now...the woman i want to marry....or play bass for...which aint gonna happen...

All the while, Pino stays low key and just keeps playing it with time, tone, class and conviction. He's one of the finest bassists working today.
Some favorite cuts, in no specific order:
"New York Minute" - Don Henley
"Give Blood" - Pete Townshend
"Lady in Red" - Chris DeBurgh
"Get Here" - Oleta Adams

I love his playing on the Paul Young albums (especially on some tracks from "The Secret of Association" with some crazy wah and sub-octave stuff) and I saw him live with the Who filling Entwhistle's shoes. Tough gig!
Er... what forum is this?

It's pretty obscure, but the debut CD by Manu Katche (" It's about time") features Pino pretty strongly as well. |

Pino doing what Pino does.

pino didn't play bass on d'angelo's "brown sugar", the credits on my CD booklet cite D'Angelo as playing all instruments on that track. |

I especially can't stand Erykah Badu. Aside from the Gary Numan album, which I just ordered, are there any of Pino's albums that would appeal to the non-"lite pop" listener? |
