A tad to slow for punk, but nicely recorded, sound is perfect.
Because the sound is rather beautiful, in this song the singers voice creates on akward contrast with the music.
His voice is dirtier than the music, wich is a bummer.
I feel he just keeps following the rythym of the drums wich tends to get boring. Not that the drums are bad.
The singer should listen more to what the instruments are doing. After all the voice is an instrument too.
(this is the song I liked the least) Hunky Dory:
I first want to say I enjoyed this song.
Very good bass playing. I hear some influences of blues and jazz in there. Wich is a big plus and a credit to the genre you guys are playing.
The guitarists work is also great. It are all simple things he is playing, but it was very nice. From simple blues-driven punk riffs to some classic rock leads. Simple but very beautiful guitar playing to listen to.
Here the singer brings more expression and dynamics in his work. Rhythym is much better too. This song should be a measure for him for future songs.
I even liked the lyrics in this one.
(this I think is the best song of the three I heared) Shake:
I feel this is the more experimental kind of thing compared to the other two.
I love the way the bass and the guitar are on the same wave length. Old school rock and roll. With blues influences.
I'm glad to hear your guitarist isn't messing about with distortions, I assume he just uses overdrive. Good element, keep with it. His playing and the basslines complement each other perfectly.
The vocals: not as bad as in TLD, not as good as in Hunky Dorey.
overall:
- I can't judge the drums. Althoug I noticed nothing wrong with it.
- The singer: well I kinda expressed how I feel about his work. I guess I personally don't like the way he uses his overdriven voice. More expression needed.
I don't wanna hurt his feelings, but just wanna offer some constructive critisism. He doesn't suck at it, he just needs to polish his part in the band up.
- I wouldn't intentionally listen to this genre of music. But when I'm in a local bar and this kinda music is playing I can appreciate it.
- A good blues mixed with a bit of slow punk feel to it. With different element from other subgenres of rock.
Keep in mind: these are just my personal opinions. You and your band can give notice to them or discard them.
And your bass playing is very good. Do you listen to a lot of blues and jazz. It seems like you are influence by those genres. I really respect it, and I'm not saying that just to make you feel good.

To C'thulhu, the singer says thanks for the constructive criticism. He doesn't even really like the vocal work himself in TLD haha .
Yeah, the guitarist only uses his tube screamer, he doesn't like all the different distortions etc. that he could have.
Thanks for the compliments on the playing. My main influence is Tommy Shannon from SRV and Double Trouble so thats where my main blues influence is from , although I don't listen to jazz.
Cheers,

I'm glad you liked the review.
May I offer a tip to the singer...
Does he play an instrument? I mean just for private use?
If not I advice him to get an acoustic guitar (or cheap keyboard) and just learn some basic music theory.
Then he'll know better what he can do with his voice. I said before I didn't liked his overdriven voice (just personal taste), but if he can add more dynamic, rythym and even melody in his singing and it would be an interesting combination with the color of his voice.
From my experience in bands: the best singers I played with had musical training in the past or were aspiring guitarists. (they never used instruments in the band though)
Good luck with the band. |

Cheers again,
