I bought the new Cardigans CD yesterday. It's really good. Extremely slow, very dark songs - not very poppy at all (well, maybe one or two songs could make it onto the radio). The recording is top notch; Emma's voice sounds particularly full and lush.
It's really a beautiful album. Some of it reminds me of early Sarah McLaughlin, some makes me think of Sigur Ros. There's no Black Sabbath covers on it, unfortunately.
And of course, their singer is cute. Look at those muscles!!! |

Uh, they've got a good bassist. I've only heard the album with the hit... I'm not impressed.

Their other stuff beyond First Band On The Moon is much colder and darker. There's something about their sound that I just dig. Perhaps it's a product of needing something to balance out my love for Meshuggah. |

i liked that song, in a pop music sort of way...
Love me love me
(say that you love me)
fool me fool me
(go on and fool me)
love me love me
(pretend that you love me)
leave me leave me
(just say that you need me
Love me love me
(say that you love me)
leave me leave me
(just say that you need me)
I can't care 'bout anything but you...
i like that song!

I liked Gran Tourismo and I also always dug those lounge rock-ish Black Sabbath covers they've done. I never thought Iron Man could be so laid back and groovy.

| | | Gran Turismo is a great album. Every song on it is good. They are a really harmonically advanced band if you listen closely...they have a really good grasp of when to use dissonance, extensions, etc.
I thought their latest album was really a step back for them musically though. I think they focused on trying to write catchy stuff rather than writing oddball things, and to me they kinda came up short on it. The 'good horse?' and 'disconnect' songs really grate my nerves for some reason.
It's not awful overall but I was expecting a lot more. |
