Hey guys,
Was hoping you all could let me know what you think of the new song we just posted on our myspace. It's unmastered and also has a considerable amount of more mixing to be done, but we are happy with it at the moment!
Please give it a listen, I'd love to hear some feedback! http://www.myspace.com/ayleron |

No disrespect, but every time I check out a twenty-somethings-guys-with-guitars band nowadays they all sound the same; same chords, same guitar sound, same vocal style, etc.
Take it with a grain of salt, because I'm old and out of the loop.
You guys have 60,000+ hits. You've got to being doing something right. Rock on. |

I guess I wasn't specific enough, but what I'm asking for is someone to actually listen to the song, specifically the bass, and let me know what type of sound they think I should be going for; for specific parts.
This is the time in the mix where I can let my engineer know how I want my bass to sound and at what parts. So I'm looking for a little insight. |

I find it hard to get real specific about songs that I can only hear on the computer, but your mixes are pretty clear and there is some variety between the three tracks you posted. The singer sounds a bit like Ben Folds to me, but then I sound like Billy Gibbons on an oxycontin binge, so why bother with comparisons.
As far as the bass, from what I can glean from these tracks, you sound is fine and you pump the tunes right along. Like the other guy said, you have 65000 hits. Find a way to build on it. Your songs would appear to be commercially viable, but, believe it or not, that is the easy part. |

I think the bass is just fine sounding. Things to thing about are putting yourself into the bass drum part, and vise-versa so as to keep the "Punch" in the sound, and keep it clean, and you've sounded like you are doing both. Nice work!
congrats also to your producer. Nice ear!

One of the things I've figured out over the years is that playing in a band and playing alone are two completely different beasts.. This type of music calls for me to play a good bit differently than I'm used to, but I really enjoy it and especially all of the support we've getting..
When we started less than a year ago, our drummer had only been playing drums for 6 months, and it used to get pretty frustrating trying to work with each other. He's become a great drummer since then though, so big kudos to him.
As for our producer, he's amazing.. I believe he is only 22 years old, and still going to college for chemical engineering. Just to give you an idea of how he takes advantage of the little that he has:
Here is the studio that we recorded at for our first two songs ( I-49 & Tonight's Another Night)
Now here is an image of our new producer's home studio set up in his bedroom (The guy we recorded our new EP with including Progress & Regrets):
You can hear there is a MUCH MUCH great quality to our music with our new producer, even though you would think we would get better quality from the other studio. So I can't wait to see what happens when he finally obtains his "dream" studio, haha. |
