Straps:

everyone needs to raise their straps. I used to be a low slinger, back in high school, but it takes far too much effort to compensate, and it's extremely painful; especially for pick playing.

Recording:

Everyone's frequencies are bleeding into one another. The bass is coming through all right, but the guitars are muddying up things and my ear is getting lost. Everyone needs to agree on certain frequency bands, and stick with them, so that everyone has their own space in the mix.

There's something that's not sitting right with the way the drums sound. I think the drummer should re-check his mics.

the "trading of licks" just seems to run on. IMO, they should just come, one after another, without pauses.

During your bass solo, you shouldn't be shy, and throw in more notes. Additionally, perhaps you can stomp on a pedal to shape the sound, for that particular solo (thicken it up).

The vocalist needs to control his voice. Sometimes his signal starts to distort because he's shouting/too close. Also, the vocals are really gritty, which contributes to the overall muddiness.

I apologise if I'm wrong, but I think that could be because they've recorded it with a microphone in a room, rather then a recording studio.

I'm not a fan of your style of music, but you sound pretty good. try and get rid of some of that distortion and muddiness as well, but like I said that could be your recording.

And delete those bloody spammers from your comments

When I post a thread like this I actually want honesty, so here it goes after 2 listens.

There seems to be a very annoying gate on the cymbals.

The drummer uses more cymbal than I would like to here.

Timing wavers and the groove doesn't come through, I didn't feel like tapping my toe.

It definitively not bad. I would like to hear it live. The song writing is pretty good, especially for younger players. Most people don't leave space in the song... there is space there.

If I played in a band that sounded like that when I was a teen I would have been happy.

The song was not captivating. But that may be because the singer was hard to understand.

Also, I like more dynamics, builds, etc in songs... but that is just taste.

yes, we did record it in our practice space with a crappy 4 track recorder and the guitarists have have new les pauls and tube amps so that should clear things up a bit hopefully, i thank you for all of your comments and take them all into consideration.
