Well I have a bassic setup at home. Tascam 788 for recording drums(7 tracks) exported to Tracktion and a M-Audio Fast Track Pro for doing a single track at a time.

Just Shure 58's and 57's and a D112. Guitar is played by me via Line 6 POD, bass played by me direct and is a Modulus Q5. All tracking and mixing done using Tracktion.

You can find it here. It is called "In Vein".

Or download

If anyone wants to host it would be appreciated as soundclick is a pain!!

It's a comfortable mix, I like it. It's hard to say on the guitar, though, at only 80kb/s if the line6 sounds good or no.

I was able to get the bit rate up higher. Just to 96 I will try to get it to 128 this weekend.

The mix ain't bad, but a little more bass would help it out, I think. It sounds a little thin.
And the song is pretty good, too.

I think you're headed in the right direction. Keep playing and keep tinkering with your gear. =)

I'm not digging the drum track, but I think you did a great job overall. The drums seem distant, and not very thick or beefy if you know what I mean. I have absolutely no experience with recording, so take my comments with a grain of salt

Thanx Sean.

You are right they are not very in your face. Part of the problem was the fact that it was just kick and snare with overheads. We only mic'd the top of the snare.

Later after we recorded we found out his kick skin was split pretty bad. We also couldnt mic it properly.

Anyone have any ideas on how to bring it our front more?

I'm not sure if it's an artifact of the MP3, my ears or if it's actually there - but I do think I hear some "pumping/breathing" effects on a compressor or two somewhere. I think it comes from the drums.

Other than that, it sounds decent enough, though you really can tell that the drums are home recorded in a room that's too small. But no really glaring faults, sound-wise.

I do have some issues with the performance, though.

Drifta-Thanx for the comments and glad you enjoyed it. It isnt my exact cup of tea either. I like things heavier or more experimental. I wrote the song more for the band I'm in more than anything.
