Anyone here use the POD X3 as a recording interface? If so, how do you feel about the sound? At least for bass.

The recording interface itself is pretty good. You have to have ASIO (i think thats the acronym...) complient software. Reaper is pretty good for that.

The X2 itself has 4 stereo channels. Tone 1, Tone 2, Tone 1+2 mix, and Dry.

From personal experience with it tho, I must say that the cab/mic emulation sucks ****. I narrowed it down to the fact that the 3 mics they emulate are dynamic (as opposed to the condenser I use now), and there is no way of turning off the mics without also disableing the cabnet modeling.

That said, if your not planning on useing the amp simulations, you might want to consider something else for recording.

I realize I put this thread in the wrong forum. I meant to put it in recording techniques.

With that said. I guess I do want amp simulation and was wondering if POD X3 is good. I'm going to use it for guitar, bass and vocals. And mic a bunch of other stuff. I'll use it with my laptop, when I'm traveling, so I'll get the small red bean version. I want it mostly for songwriting, but was wondering is there are sounds that could be used for real recording too.

Google "Lincoln Brewster", not exactly a bedroom musician. He uses the Pod X3 Live to record all his guitars. You can formulate your own opinion from there...

Guitarwise its a good unit. A guitarist friend of mine loves the one I sold him. I found the bass side of things lackluster at best, which is why I sold it. I know nothing of the vocal stuff, but I imagine its OK if you got a good enough mic. IIRC, it doesn't provide phantom power for condenser mics so depending on what your recording it might be OK, it might not be.

Just my 2 cents on this thing. YMMV and all that

Hmm, I actually love the bass side of it. Like anything instrumental though, one man's gem is another man's lemon.
