He's no poor guy! Michel Hatzi is the no.1 Belgian bass player, check out his band aka moon too see how far you can take time signatures with Indian influences. He's a monster.

that reminds me of when several years ago I went to go see Stanley clark/George duke project at the china club in chicago. One of the thing's their known for doing in their show's is calling up musicians from the crowd to play.they give you a bass to play and you get to play a few lick's with Stan the man and George over a funk groove. One guy decided to bust out with his Stanley clark lick's, stanly got on the mike and said;"that's cool but that's me I want to hear YOU" the guy started trying to play school day's.stanley shook his head, shrugged at the crowd and wiped up the floor with the guy.I felt bad for the dude but like one of my friends said "he tried to tell him".

man, that sounds like fun! It must be unnerving getting on stage with Stanley, but I think I would give it a good go!

Cool video btw!

I wouldnt really call it a battle, more of a duet. Reguardless, they both look like there having fun and i dont think there was any intention by either player to outperform the other, well maby jaco a little .

I think the kid held his own. His little solo section was very respectable. They both look like they were having fun and Jaco was gracious. I give the kid a lot of credit, there was no puddle on the floor. Fun clip, thanks for sharing!

If I had a battle with Jaco (when he was alive). I'd just cry and say "I'll play root notes, you do your thang."

That's what I call breaking the groove and turning it into musical masturbation.

Besides, that was never a battle. It was a duet.

Pretty sure. I don't hear much mwah when Jaco is playing, mostly from Hatzi. The chordal run he does near the end pretty much proves it is fretted. Jaco got his sound from how he approached the bass, not saying he could make a fretted sound fretless, but his sound was HIS sound.

acctually thats what freaks me out about jaco...he just gets this sound out of a bass and whats going on there is beyond amazing....i wish i had half an hour with the guy ...and could say "stop...do that bit again"...and from what i gather about the guy...he probably would.
