Pop songs with good basslines?

Sign in to disble this ad
I completely randomly heard Slam Dunk Da Funk by the boyband 5ive just now (yaay nostalgia) and I never realised how good the bassline is. It's a funky little slap-bass number.

Anyone know of any good pop songs with good basslines? Preferably recent ones but anything is good.

Anything produced by big name producers in sessions towns and good studios will probably have a good bassline like that. Record companies can afford to hire pro bassists to play on their boytoy records, it's just another part of producing a shiny plastic commerical record to get played on the radio.

The cover band I'm playing with does "Harder to Breathe" by Maroon 5 and I'll admit, I enjoy playing it quite a bit:

You can definitely funk it up with some ghost notes, and throwing in hammer-ons/pull-offs makes it even more fun to play.

Agreed.
"Last Chance On The Stairway" from the same Rio album has a killer bassline.

The bass playing on "Close to You" by The Carpenters is really good.

I suggest Spacehog's In The Meantime. Bit of a one hit wonder back in the day, the bassman's married to Liv Tyler now

+1

The reason that song does it for me though is the space inbetween the riffs.
