Popol Vuh (Why aren't they more well known?)

Honestly, Popol Vuh has made some of the prettiest music I have ever heard, and they're not mentioned among the greats of music. I'll find some recordings as example later, but in the meantime, is anyone else a fan of this amazing band?

My friend's pretty stoked on them. I'll check them soon.

Nice name change, Matt! I thoroughly support the Hawkwind.

Hawkwind

Anyways: Here's some video clips, unfortunatly, their best stuff is on CD.

Kyrie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9q19C220Vvo
Improvisation (A little drawn out, but I like it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DON-CogKcfk
Maya (Shows their classical side): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uSrcrEIhqQ

The videos don't do them much justice, so...

The official Myspace Page: http://www.myspace.com/popolvuh

They are just so diverse, a mix of electronic, folk, raga, choral, classical, ambient, world. And they were doing all this in the 70s, which is in my opinion, the golden age of studio production.

A lot of it is written off as background music, it is very meditative, but Popol Vuh is such a talented band, there is no way to fake the songs they did, and it's all before programming was a big thing.

They are so talented that I'm shocked more people don't at least acknowledge them. I think they've made some of the most beautiful music ever.

Of course I like Popol Vuh and Hawkwind.

Not to promote drugs or anything, but I listened to Space Ritual on 6 hits of acid once. All I can say about that is BLAAOOW! I freaked out during Sonic Attack and I heard that damn scary brit voice in my head the rest of the night.

Popol Vuh.. They did the soundtrack to Herzog's Nosferatu, and that's just plain awesome. Much like Space Ritual by Hawkwind. Especially Lemmy's bass on Lord of Light.

I've never done Acid: But Sonic Attack on acid?!?! 6 hits too! Are you freaking insane. Hahahahaha

n case of Sonic Attack on your district, follow these rules:

If you are making love it is imperative to bring all bodies to orgasm simultaneously.
Do not waste time blocking your ears.
Do not waste time seeking a "sound proofed" shelter.
Try to get as far away from the sonic source as possible
Do not panic
Do not panic

Use your wheels. It is what they are for.
Small babies may be placed inside the special cocoons
and should be left, if possible, in shelters.
Do not attempt to use your own limbs.
If no wheels are available - metal - not organic -
limbs should be employed whenever practical.

Remember:
In the case of sonic attack survival means
"Every man for himself"
Statistically more people survive if they think
only of themselves
Do not attempt to rescue friends, relatives, loved ones
You have only a few seconds to escape
Use those seconds sensibly or you will inevitably die
Think only of yourself
Think only of yourself
Do not panic
Think only of yourself
Think only of yourself

These are the first signs of sonic attack:
You will notice small objects - such as ornaments - oscillating
You will notice vibrations in your diaphragm
You will hear a distand hissing in your ears
You will feel the need to vomit
You will feel dizzy
You will have difficulty focussing
You will need to breathe more rapidly
There will be bleeding from orifices
There will be an ache in the pelvic region
You may be subject to fits of hysterical shouting or even laughter

These are all sign of imminent sonic destruction
Your only protection is flight
If you are less than ten years old
Remain in your shelter and use your cocoon
Remember - you can help no one else
You can help no one else
You can help no one else
Do not panic
Think only of yourself
Think only of yourself
Think only of yourself

Think only of yourself

Think only of yourself

Think only of yourself

Seriously, best piece of poetry ever (to me, of course) and with those electronic/feedback manipulations in the background... genius. I could see why that would freak you out though! Ha.
