I'm not a big Claypool fan, but this is pretty groovy.

A lot of that funky finger technique he's doing about 53 secs in was done by (possibly pioneered by?) Francis Rocco Prestia of Tower of Power.

Very cool. A side of Les not often seen! If I just heard (not seen) the clip, shy of the tone I'd never guess Claypool!

If that overwhelmed you with funk, you really need to get out more!

Like DW said, check out the original version by the Reddings.

+2 ... I wouldn't go as far as to say that Les's cover was boring, but the original ... Much funkier!

It's interesting how the original version sounds so modern and it was done so long ago.

I think there is a huge difference between delivering funk and playing with SOUL.

The original has FUNK & SOUL, whereas Claypool's version was more like a mechanical version of FUNK.

Simply putting the right notes in the right place, can fall flat if you don't FEEL it.

My 2 cents.

Side note: Yeah, the original has more funk, but mainly, it was the fact that claypool was doing it is why it was "overwhelming" it wasn't something I had come to expect from him, though there is more funk in the original, I like the tone Les is getting more, but thats just me!
