The "one" tone that I've been looking for for a long time is probably best represented here: http://www.archive.org/download/soul...-30t06_vbr.mp3

I don't know who Soulhat's bassist was on this recording (they had a few) and I have no idea what his setup was, but this is the tone that I dig. Beautiful growl with articulation galore.

Post clips of bassists whose tone you want and the equipment they use.

The brigtness and snap of Stuart Hamm's Kubicki tone from his first two albums crossed with the burpy, poppy sound of Geddy Lee's Wals, I'm able to get a good approximation of it with my Trace Elliot and my kubicki.

Other tones I covet are things like Mark King's Status tone, and I can get a good version of that going too!

Recording is bit rough but sounds like a Jazz bass to me. Classic sound. Should be a peice of cake to get that sound.

My ideal would have to be equal parts of:

George Porter Jr's recent live tone sample

Tony Franklin's early 'Firm' tone sample

Lucky Scott on Mayfield's "Curtis Live!" link to samples

Tyrone Brown on Grover Washington Jr's "Live at the Bijou" link to samples

Billy Gould, Aria Pro Integra bass, Peavey Mark III or IV amp, 1820 cabinet.(I got closer to this tone with my Ric than with my Aria Pro)

I like John Patitucci's tone on this album, particularly track # 4.

I also like Roscoe Beck's tone on track # 5 of this CD.

Dan Andriano is a pretty awesome bassist, especially for a punk bassist. Classic jazz through Ampeg sound, love it...
