Powerful voices in big band jazz?

I love big band music. It's probably the only genre of music where I wish I could find more of it with vocals. But not just any vocals, STRONG ones.

The best song I can post to show what I'm looking for is this: ‪ESTHERO- MELANCHOLY MELODY(AUDIO ONLY)‬‏ - YouTube

I absolutely love her voice and the power she puts into her singing. Listening to Esthero, it's almost like she has the the strength of a contemporary R&B singer but the finesse and skill of a jazz singer all rolled into one. Are there more like her, male or female?

I'm not a huge fan of vocals in Jazz (although I do like Lamert, Henricks & Ross, The Manhatten Transfer, Joe Williams, etc).
That said, I did used to spin Dianne Schuur with The Count Basie Orchestra. That was quite awhile ago.

The Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra is currently one of my favourite Big Bands; he has some vocals in there...although probably not anything like those in your link.

Powerfull voice and big band screams Yma Sumac to me:
‪Yma Sumac - Tumpa‬‏ - YouTube
or: ‪Yma Sumac - Bo mambo‬‏ - YouTube

I think you've probably got something a bit more subtle in mind, nevertheless you've got to love this.
