Mine are:
The Paul Beloche catalog especially the ballads.
James Morrison.
The Hillsong series is rapidly moving to the top. Slap and pop, jazzy, or played straight just about everything is customizable with a strong message.
A very cool slap and pop Joy To The World is on the Hillsong Celebrating Christmas CD.
What moves you in praise?

I can't tell you names because I don't own any cd's but I'm finding myself listening to stuff the Spanish worship leader sends me in my email box.
As far as contemporary worship, I tend to lean toward Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin, Tim Hughes, David Crowder, etc. That's what my church plays a lot of so I get into that. Lately I've been into the News Boys' worship stuff. I know it's been out there a while but it's awesome stuff.
Oh, plus everything Fred Hammond and Andrew Gouche plays on is great listening too.

I've dug through some of their old stuff... and if you've got the time, check out The Stone's Been Rolled Away (groovetacular... I've got a youtube video of me and a band just playing the instrumental for that... just ask), Faith, Church on Fire, and the best is House of the Lord, which has an insanely tricky slap bass solo in the original recording. Slap bass in church music? Hell yes.
Playing Victor's Amazing Grace solo in church, and then just using harmonics chords to accompany the church singing it back to me? Yeah!
I saw a dude by the name of Chris Koelma do a mad tapping instrumental of Jesus Lover of My Soul. That was sweet.
Anyway. I hate the bass solo in Salvation is Here. Just putting it out there. I can't play it. |
