it's a live rehearsal... 4 songs for free.

I downloaded them, but found them to be a tad bland. More seasoned musicianship wise... but the energy wasn't there.

Yeah, they're definitely on the downhill slide these days. Brown Album was their last good album IMO. Antipop was borderline, and the whole Animals... EP was kinda crummy. Then came the Singles compilation, Fish dvd, now Tim has (wisely) left the band again and these rehashes come out. I think it's time to call it a wrap.

The hallucino-genetics dvd is absolutely fantastic.

But I think the new tour is a pretty blatant cash grab.

i'm down with the cash grabs. if you're fortunate enough to have a band that will pay you buttloads to play the hits, go get that cash! and i guess that with this ep they're not charging for it. but i'm with james...they sound tired and a bit uninspired. if i were them i wouldn't have released this.

I only had one of their CDs before this download, so whatever. Free stuff is awesome.

And, very few bands of note play TWO shows in my state on the same tour.

Hooray for Primus

I think it sounds good. I think it's just dry. They're live takes.

Les said he didn't want to do Primus again unless it was new material. So this is them just jamming and getting things moving again. I think it's cool they offering free rehersal downloads.

I just think that a tired and uninspired tour is a bad spot to leave on an awesome legacy.

On a related note, I just bought my ticket to see Sleep's reunion tour.

I think this tour is supposed to be inspiration for the new record. We'll see. I really liked Tour De Fromage, and Hallucino Genetics.

They're already tired? The tour just started!

I liked it but I think more of issue is with the recording that it is not "rounded out" but mixed dry, not the performance.

Musically they are tight and impressive to me.

tight, yes. but it sounds like a rehearsal, and i'd say that even if it was highly produced. les seems not too interested in singing well. he's totally flat all over "duchess and the proverbial mind spread." and jay sounds good but like he's holding back, whereas herb and brain always played with a lot of gusto, especially brain (antipop is my favorite album of theirs just because i like brain so much). larry, of course, is larry

Getting mine as well. But after seeing High On Fire last weekend, I think I may just enjoy Russian Circles more. Well have to see.

its just a bunch of old songs. yeah, its just a 2010 rehearsal of old songs. whoop dee ****ing doo. now they're going to send me crap in my email. yeah I've seen primus many times and last time sucked, they played for 45 min, didn't like the crowd, and stopped. I saw them at red rocks, and that was killer... but I digress, I want to hear new songs.

The American Life and Harold jams are great on these.

The new Primus album is hitting the shelf in spring of 2011.

This isn't a "cash grab" tour or a "rehash of old material"; Les was sick of Primus with Herb as Tim didn't want to move forward. Les said they wouldn't get back together unless they were recording new material. This is from some random rehearsal place, not in a studio.

Jay Lane is Les's favorite drummer and he's brought a whole new energy back into the band. Les said he hasn't been excited like this since the very early days of Primus when they were recording their early albums, and that he's never rehearsed this much in his life.

For those who haven't seen them live yet and are only going on the nostalgia tours, don't speak so soon. I saw them at the secret warm-up show in SF a few weeks ago and it's being compared to as one of the best Primus shows. This family friend who has seen Primus nearing 100 times said it was one of the best he's ever seen.

This recording might not do it justice, but Jay Lane is the best Primus drummer to me and many others that have seen them live so far (and Herb is one of my favorite drummers of all time). The energy they have right now is incredible. They were incredibly happy playing, had an energy I've never seen from all of them before, and were ridiculously tight. If they come near you, you gotta go.
