Wow, I'd never heard of this. Thanks for the recommendation; I'll have to look for it. Sometimes I think Prince's weirdness obscures his brilliance a bit. Not everything he does is golden, but IMHO he's truly gifted.

I bought this over the Xmas holidays(Best Buy).
I immediately posted my comments in the "New Music DVDs" thread...

Absolutely, it is happenin'!
The solos tend to be 'jazzy', the grooves funky...nice dichotomy.

It looks like Rhonda Smith is using a Jazz.
Sheila E. has aged extremely well.

During this concert Prince mentions "...if you like what you hear, buy One Night Alone".
It's on my list(3-cd set @approx $50...kinda steep). I did pick up N.E.W.S.; essentially the same band on the Vegas DVD...it's instrumental & contains but 4 pieces.

I like the part in the concert DVD when Prince asks "Who has a cell phone"?
"Call your next of kin, 'cause we're about to get funky".

...and how 'bout his new dance, "the Ozzie Osburn"?

Best Buy is also stocking the Sign O' The Times DVD.
Anybody seen this one?

Richard-
He's not really weird on this concert in Vegas at all. No worries...he's just down to business.
He turned out pretty well.

Prince played out here a couple weeks back...one of the best shows I've ever seen[and I've seen alot] Rhonda & John Blackwell just smoked....Maceo too!!!! Rhonda played a Fender Jazz, like she does in the video. Prince is one of the best band leaders out there!

Emancipation is also cool.
I did a little reading up this set...decided I wanted it & figured it would set me back about $35+...this was pre-Internet for me, so I'm hoping I don't have to order it from the local store. I bebop in there & they're stocking, like 20 copies...for $7.99 each! Really, I thought it was a mistake. I take it to the counter & it scans at the marked price. Sold!

...what's really funny-
In the "Used" bin there was a copy for $20!

Can you beleive Prince was recording albums back in '78!?

I've got this DVD too - the partnership of Rhonda Smith and John Blackwell is right in "Pocket central" - The whole band is awesome! My fave tracks are "Family Name", "Whole Lotta Love" and "Pass the Peas".

Like everyone else, I thought Rhonda's Jazz was a Fender....but it's actually an ESP (you get a very brief close up of the headstock between one of the tracks earlier on).

The ESP jazz was the one Prince is seen playing in the openimg credits, I'm pretty sure Rhonda was playing a Fender, I know she was when I saw her live. I'll go back and watch the DVD again, I could be wrong

I have! It's my favorite tunes on the Rave 2000 tour cd.
Larry Graham sits deep in the back of the pocket on that one!
One big funk lesson!

Ooops forgot to mention that I do own a copy of the Vegas show.
Rhonda Smith plays a black 75 jazz bass (one of Princes favs).
She also plays a electric upright too.

This DVD is Killer!!!!!
Rhonda plays a 75(i think it's 75) jazz bass .She was given the bass by Fender.
I read an interview about that; she can't play her Zone bass with Prince.

I love when Prince ask the audience to take the cell phone!!Tell them how much it's funky here...
