Proggy Tapping - Bass & Drums

Here is a live studio take of a little jam I've been working on with the drummer for a while. It's mainly about the drummer ripping it in odd time sigs. My electronic buddy added a few synths.

Recorded with a mic to the cab, my tone is coming almost exclusively from "the fingers."

Cool stuff, I like that you are keeping things solid while the drummer flips ****. A well put together little jam, it's got a Toolish vibe for sure, I like the synths your friend added, they help add a bit more interest.

+1. Your drummer sounds pretty kickass. Was digging your tone. I would've enjoyed a little more variation on your part, but that's cool.

I should probably develop a few cool fills or variations for the album version. Just need to spend some time on my own, my skills arent quite at the level where I can improv in 7/8 and stay in 7/8... =)

Probably around 11-12 years, getting close to half that time playing in bands on and off. Maybe I could have become a jazz master (with improv abilities), but instead I've focused on my niche of odd time sigs, writing, tapping, mainly for tech metal.

If you liked the jam, there is some good stuff with the same drummer for our main project, Left Brain - http://www.myspace.com/leftbrainmusic

Sample 6 is pretty melodic and tappy, Sample 1 &2 are pretty mechanical and metal.

Pretty good stuff. Awesome bass tone. It cuts through the mix well, and balances out the total sound.

Rock on

Absolutely fantastic! Really interesting, I'm totally hooked on it! I like your tone, do you run some sort of effect or is it just "you"?

Thanks for the encouragement guys! It's been a long run writing the material for this upcoming album- firing/replacing the drummer, firing the singer, a lot of practice, hashing things out, with infrequent (vocal-less) shows.

I like to joke that my tone is all "fingers." The latest breakthrough I've had tonewise is dialing in the best cut-through tone on the head, then running my Sansamp BDDI through the FX Loop. This kind of gives me the best of both worlds. Aside from that, I am running a clean signal (no compression).
