I was just listening to this band again and the bassist is amazing. He really kicks ass on their new album, Career Suicide. I don't know how much these guys get mentioned around here, but here's one more. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Y8VH6FweV6A
tapping starts at like :23 |

Peace

They lose a bass player every album and ALWAYS have band troubles even when they were Smackin' Isaiah. I usually just take it as it comes. I mentioned AWS in the Any good punk bassists? thread. Brian Robinson, their current bassist, is a very talented guy. He blows all their past bass players out of the water. Interesting that he plays fingerstyle when the last two bassists they had played with picks.
Of course the recorded version sounds better, but I don't think their playing is poor. They play it pretty close to the recording. I know for sure I can't tap while singing like that. |

Not my thing. It's impressive, but it's about as appropriate as a heavily distorted slapped line in a country ballad.

Like most punk shows I'm sure how they sound is secondary to the level of energy they exude, and that's tough to capture on a recording. I remember when I first saw them and I was like, "Who the hell are these guys??" Their singer was a short dude, their drummer was a nerdy looking guy with glasses, and one of their guitarists had a leg brace and looked like he could have come from the cast of Silver Spoons (really clean cut looking with a baby face). Needless to say after their performance they really impressed me. It was a tough crowd that night, too. |

I think it would have worked better if only the bassist had been tapping.
