Lightbulb Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime II - Has Anyone Heard It?

Sign in to disble this ad
Jeez I didn't realize this album had come out until today!

Anyway, Operation: Mindcrime is one of my favourite albums of all-time. So to anyone who has heard the sequel: does it live up to the original?

Thoughts? Reviews? Predictions?

I have it - honestly it's better than I thought it would be but not great, a bit cheesy in spots, not enough edge. I'd give it a B or B-. Unfortunately, it is not nearly as good as the first but if you're a fan you should probably pick it up. I will go to see them live though - they claim their doing both Mindcrimes back to back!

I actually like it a lot. I bought it not really expecting much and was kind of surprised. It's not as good as the original, but the original is a classic in my book. There are some really good songs on there. A couple of songs at the end kind of drag. Rearrange has a killer chorus. It's worth buying. It would sound a lot heavier with a more ballsy guitar sound though.

I think they deliberately went for an 80's sought of sound on the album. I read somewhere that they recorded using techniques that were used in the 80's rather than more modern style. FWIW.

They tried too hard to capture the recipe of the OMC 1. They should have just used what is available today. I still like it though. I'll probably go see them in November as well. They're supposedly doing all of OMC and then do OMC II with actors and the works.

Same here, I keep putting it off.

Forgot to ask:

Does Geoff Tate still have the goods? After hearing The Warning, Operation: Mindcrime, Empire, and Operation: LIVEcrime, I was convinced that he was the best singer in the world.

In this album, you get to hear the 2 best voices in the world TATE AND DIO in 1 song.

Yeah Tate still has it.

The Tate and Dio duel is my favorite part of the OMC2 by FAR. A solid album. Maybe trying a little too hard to feel like the original, but a good effort. It's really not fair to compare it to the original, which is one of my favorite metal albums EVER.

If the original's a 10/10, then I give OMC2 a 7.5/10. Worth getting if you like the original for sure.

I so need to buy this CD.

OM1 was an absolute favorite of mine. Saw them twice for that tour. Doing the whole concept disc live in sequence was just excellent. I walked away immensely impressed.

Too bad DeGarmo is not with them for this one.

Just got the disc a few days ago. Even though it's definitely not OM1, it's still really good! There are definitely some riffs and tricks stolen from OM1. Which is cool. It really ties the discs together. My favorite track is The Hands.

Tate's voice is great. It's not the Geoff Tate from the Empire and before days, but he still sounds great, and is unmistakable.

I can't help but think that this disc would have been downright killer if DeGarmo was still with them. He was definitely an integral part of that chemistry, and I think all their stuff dropped a few notches after he left. Despite that, I think they most certainly pulled it off with this disc.

If any of you are old school Queensryche fans, I'd really urge you to grab this.

I'd be really eager to hear everyone else's opinions of the disc.

Peace
