| Question for the Stax experts Been on a big Stax kick lately...and have a question about Duck Dunn's bass sound on the Otis Redding song "I Can't Turn You Loose." How is Duck getting that bass sound? I seriously doubt Duck is using a pick, and don't think his bass amp is farting out either. My guess is very low action with some fret buzz, or some serious digging in. Thoughts anyone?
FWIW, Bruce Thomas gets a similar sound out of his P at the end of the Elvis Costello song "5ive Gears in Reverse", a song in which BT calls his bass playing a tribute to Duck.
