QUIZ - just for fun

Sign in to disble this ad
You know how you occasionally just stumble across an absolute gem on the vastness of the Internet?

This is one of the great TV themes of the 70s (extended version). Brilliant ambient sound on this recording, too, unlike a lot of the really close miked stuff of the time. Make sure you listen to it loud!

http://www.billygreen.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Theme.mp3

Do you remember what show it was? Who starred in the show? Who produced it? Who wrote the theme?

Just for fun, no beer prize or cash alternative.

Youngsters might enjoy the hugeness of this sound too - give it a listen.

Bill

Still waiting on... who produced the show? Who wrote the theme? (One of the great 70s TV and film guys.)

A QUINN MARTIN PRODUCTION

No guess on theme's composer, but I knew it w/in 3 seconds- LOVE that music. Same goes for the chase scenes, of course.

Not a bad guess with Lalo Schifrin. But wrong.

I'm sure Google will quickly come up with the goods here now the show's named.

Definitely a Quinn Martin production. Good to hear you guys are digging this. Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

I just love the sound of a really big band/orchestra in full swing. As much as I like hearing smaller otufits, there's no way a puny little four or five piece band can make a noise as impressive as this, no matter what they try to do to beef things up.

I'm lucky to have a big band to play with as one of my regular gigs.

Patrick Williams. Didn't know who he was, honestly, until I looked him up. Nice credits!

That's the guy.

Pat Williams did some terrific stuff all round that time. I love his big band work.

Got the original question after a few bars.

I was more of a Mannix and Barnaby Jones guy myself.

Gotta love the different themes for all these 70's cop/private eye shows. Seems like they all the same voice-over guy, too!

Thanks for spurring the memories!

Hey Bill! I have this CD and, according to the credits, the version of TSoSF included there was recorded by the Pat Williams Orchestra, so I assume it's the original "album" (stereo - hi fidelity) version. You can hear it here.

I also have this album, which includes a great version of the theme with a cool Rhodes solo. Unfortunately, I only have it on LP. I'll try to convert it to mp3 during the weekend and post it here.

Those were the days in which I couldn't conceive life without a TV set at home. I devoured all those TV shows when I was a kid. Thank you for the fond memories!

Alvaro - that version you posted on ebaum's world is awesome. Thanks for that! Great alto sax work. Sounds very like Tom Scott to me.

Ha, that was cool, thanks for posting. I remember the show, but not the theme music. Great arranging and recording.

Here it is. Abraham Laboriel on bass and Lee Ritenour on guitar, BTW.
