So the new Rush DVD comes out tomorrow, who's going to go pick it up? I am, it sound pretty awesome. One disc of live footage from a Frankfurt, Germany show on the R30 tour and one disc of old live footage and other rare stuff.

I'm looking forward to it, but it seems like a duplication of effort given they last released a similar DVD in Rio. I was hoping more for an album of new material to follow-up Vapor Trails.
My brother, also a big Rush fan,. thinks this might be their "farewell" CD/DVD release. Hope not. |

I can't wait to see it though.

I'm kind of disappointed with the set list (no YYZ, Closer to The Heart, The Trees), but overall I think it is a very good dvd, also since those songs are on the Rush in Rio dvd I'm not too disappointed.

I hope it isn't the "farewell" release, but I would rather see them go out when they are still on top of their game instead of dragging it out. |

| | | | Well, here it is at long last and it lived up to my expectations entirely! The live in Germany disc is brilliantly produced. You can hear virtually EVERY note and nuance of each individual instrument---most notably, Geddy's juicy jazz bass tone. I will ALWAYS have a soft spot in my heart though for the Rickenbacker tone he achieves on the Exit Stage Left video. I swear that thing sounds like a vicious, evil tractor throughout the course of that show! (and yes, when he picks up the doubleneck during Xanadu, it sounds even MORE EVIL). Regarding the second disc, any bassist would be hard pressed NOT finding him/herself reaching for the "rewind" key during the snazzy, jazzy lick in La Villa Strangiato (and THAT DRUM PATTERN underneath it!!!)...did I mention I'm a fan of this band? |
