Racecar - Periphery

The best song ever? Definitely an instant classic in metal.

Has anyone here tried to learn it on bass? (or guitar)

I've started learning it. VERY fun and challenging song to play.

Discussion regarding Periphery/Bulb welcome!

Periphery is always a fun band to listen to. have you downloaded the instrumental version of their album yet? Check it out if you haven't! Also check out Tesseract if you Haven't heard of them yet, along the same lines as Periphery.

Well it would be quite hard for the bass to be heard over 3 guitars, drums and vocals, all of which are doing absolutely crazy stuff.

they djent sound relies heavily on cutting guitar below 200 hz. still no bass going on. or maybe its so scooped, buried, and mundane that i dont hear it. im certainly rarely listening for it, but id love to hear a small section of bass and drum groove.

trouble with their compositions is that theres ALWAYS rhythm guitar going on, even with 2 part guitar melodies. if the rhythm guitar would drop out, it would leave the bass. my current band has a very strict 1 guitar policy, so the bass is covering both bass and rhythm guitar sometimes.

Tesseract is AMAZING!!! I'm still upset that they lost Abi though. That guy was a phenomenal vocalist. One of the best I've ever heard.

Muisc is fantasic...can't get past the screaming throat singers stuff..just me.
As for playing this piece, the guitar player in the "metal" band I jam with, loves these guys , we jamed this tune last week at practice, its a neat piece to play.

WAIT! I HEAR BASS!

before the chorus drops, groove. and a tiny bit in the chorus in cranked headphones. its certainly buried under there. heavily gated with the guitars.

Haha, Im sneaky like that. I got into music (recreational listening) pretty late in life, in 9th grade which was only a year and a half before I started playing bass. When I did the vast majority of what I listened to then was metal, primarily everything from the 80s and a lot of more recent prog stuff. I listen to it less now but still love it... plus a big, fro having, black metalhead always throws people for a loop when I rock out in my car lol

Indeed, but how he hits those high notes THAT loud without going into falsetto is beyond my comprehension. Can't deny he has a heck of a lot of talent.

ill be honest, the black thing threw me off. not a lot of black metalheads out there. always makes me happy to know that aggressive music isnt just for vanilla-face rednecks like myself. long hair, hole in my face, lots of black clothes. makes sense.

its his screaming that i dont love. kinda.. angry gremlin. his singing is pretty solid. i can push out highs like that if i scream them out of the back of my throat, but not very precisely. likely some pitch correction going on there, but definitely a solid vocalist. his scream vocals grew on me. im more from the thrice and killswitch school of hardcore vocals, so this was a odd step for me
