You know you are in trouble when...

OK so I head out this am to a local studio with my Stingray and brick in hand, gonna lay down the bass grooves to a few praise songs for a demo.
Get there on time, meet the engineer and you know how you get that funny feeling, anyway I lay down a tasty groove to "blessed be the name." Mind you we are doing it much like a Motown recording.
So I finish up and the guy says to " can you just play like.. 8th notes."

OK OK I am a pro. So I bite my tongue and do it.
ITS AW FULL but I do it.

Now I just want to scream... What is with engineers ????
Does this happen to you guys ?

OK I feel better now, thanx for the time.

Is he the producer too? Is this your demo? Is he just the guy hired to record or does he have some stake in the final product?

Understandably being the pro.. you want to stay on schedule, and not draw negative attention to yourself by appearing 'obstructive' to those in the studio trying to get the tracks layed down...

Why was the original bass track deemed unusable by the engineer? Was there no further comment from him on your first effort? Did the person producing have no input? Maybe there was a plan to have two differant bass-line styles as to have a creative option at a later time? Maybe the Engineer is just not a talker... maybe I ask too many damn questions (Roger that!)

You're not terribly clear as to WHY you were instantly uneasy at the session...

but I have to agree that the right question is: who was the producer?

if the engineer was the ONLY one having a problem with your part or performance, why didn't the producer or other band members say "no, I like it the way it is"?

ps, what's a "tasty groove"?

Yes I do think it is, however we are looking for a different flavor. Or so I thought.
