Rare mp3s: Jaco Pastorius 1st Word Of Mouth gig 4/81 - Michael Brecker, Peter Erskine

Sign in to disble this ad
I have rare audio clips of Jaco's very first Word Of Mouth performance (Seventh Avenue South, NYC, 4/13/81). The quintet included Michael Brecker, Peter Erskine, Don Alias and Bob Mintzer. This was Jaco's first gig after leaving Weather Report.

Great and inspired performance! Hear it here:

Not sure if it's posted anywhere but Michael Brecker lost his battle with cancer over the weekend. He passed away early on Sat (Jan 13) in a NYC hospital.

Very Sad. We lost another one of the greats.

EDIT: I see there is a thread on the Misc board...

Not strictly true!

Changing a .m3u to a .mp3 extension does not make that file an mp3! To download the files copy the .m3u link from the website, paste into a new browser window or Quicktimes URL feature if you have it, change the .m3u extension to .mp3 and hit the return key. The mp3 will now load into your browser and you can save the file from that when fully loaded.

I never said it did... I just commented it was nice of him to name the m3u the same as the linked mp3. It made having a copy of my own easier.

FYI everyone... a .m3u file is a text document. You can open it in notepad and retrieve the location of the file(s) played.

The thing is, I've seen many people make that simple mistake before. So I was just making it clear to anyone who perhaps might mis-read your initial instruction.

No biggy!!!!!

Glad you guys liked those clips. I plan to upload a few rare Weather Report clips too, from a Feb 1 1980 concert I taped at the Beacon Theatre in NY.

thanks for that...while I never did appreciate Jaco's tone (still don't), I think his musicality is beyond comparison.

That's a shame to hear about Michael Brecker, he was a true great...as with Jaco, he will live on through his music.
