I've know about this guy for many a years. To me he is not the novelty act some people think he is. He is a very amazing musicians and one of Jimi HEndrix's favorite jamming buddies. Can you imagine that? Hendrix and Roland Kirk jamming together , unreal to me. What recordings would you guys suggest ? (RAhsaan is acually the correct spelling)

he is pretty kick ass, Even though he isn't just a novelty, his novelty stuff (multi-saxes) is pretty awsome too

Yea , Ive read a bunch of Hendrix books that In 67/68 Hendrix would always jam with Rahsaan in clubs. Hendrix also had this weird idea of having a huge house out somewhere in the country where a bunch of musicians would jam all the time . One of the first he named was Roland Kirk. They were good friends , but sadly never recorded

Roland Kirk could play three horns at the same time. He would use the one in the middle as a drone and play the right and left ones simultaneously. Not only that, he had mastered rotary breathing, so he could keeep playing for amazingly long periods of time. I saw him perform several times back in the day in Boston, mostly at the old Boston Tea Party. I think I saw him open for the J Geils Band once, and possibly Arthur Brown. Kirk was an early fusion artist so I guess that's why he showed up a lot on Rock and Roll shows back then.

"The Inflated Tear" on Atlantic has always been one of
my fav's. In the liner notes, (i miss liner notes) he talks
about cremating him when he dies, putting his ashes in
a bag of pot and letting people smoke him. Crazy, but
the man played his ass off.
