Hi,

We recorded a live set last saturday. The quality isn't brilliant (it was a recording through the mixboard), and the singer is off, but my basslines are (although boomy) rather well audible.

You'd do me an enormous favour if you'd give these songs a listen and let me know what you think of the songs, and more specifically, my basslines.

Everything is played with a MIM Fender Jazz Fretless with Dimarzio J's and a Roland DB 500.

Note; songs have been cut in half because you can only upload 10 mb at the time on soundclick. So listen to the songs with 'parts' in the title in the correct order .

(try to) Enjoy

I really dig The Logic musically and your playing is great on that one. Shiva reminds me of At the Drive In. The outro on Spirals (especially the drum solo) sounds tacked on (i.e. that it didn't really fit the song). The Lizard sounds like early Crimson, reminds me of stuff off of Starless and Bible Black.

Your Timing, most of Whatever the Direction, and Finding Emo bored the hell out of me. I would play those at the middle of your set because I would have left the venue if you had started with any of those.

Singer is could be better, but I've heard much worse. I don't care for him stylistically. Sounds like a bad version of John Wetton in the slow parts and a bad Maynard in the faster parts.

Bottomline: Your playing fits perfectly, your singer needs to practice, and the music is solid for the most part. Pretty good job.

I added another track that seemed to have disappeared the first time, called Hurricane J, a funky instrumental

I really like the music. You sound really tight, not digging the singer so much though. His voice sounds good when he's in key though. Sounds good. I really llked Hurricane J and The Logic as it Fades. Good suff.

This track sounded really cool ... I enjoyed listening to it ... the bass sounds great and the timing is really tight. In my opinio you should do more like this.

The only part where I'm defenitely out of tune is in the high lead part of The Logic Damn upper register!

Good stuff, I don't mind your singer as much on slower songs, but when you guys pick up the pace and he tries to keep up, it's a tad yucky. It is a nice blend of At The Drive In and John Wetton era King Crimson balladry, which I can always get down with.

I'm sure I'd really love studio version of your songs, a chance to put your singer in a little bit better spot in the mix. I don't think a lot of us are taking into account that these are live, they are really good for live, can't wait to hear studio versions of these songs.

I'll have to listen at work with better speakers.

However, I'd have to say there are lot's of bands with crappy and lame band names. In Progress is not one of them. I rather dig it.
