the first recording was done the most recently on apple logic pro, the second song was on protools (ew) and the acoustic song was recorded on my singers fostex. "new jersey's closed on sunday" isn't the final mix, the masters are being sent away to be mixed in nashville. just let me know what you think

I dig the music but...

It seems to be missing the sparkle off the top end. That may just be bit rate issue. It's a little tough to do a critical eval from 'net postings

I think it sounds great. I assume from your post, you're doing your own recording. I think this rivals the quality of most lower to mid range studios.

After a mix you should be golden.

It's really hard to tell if the mix is "good" with streaming mp3. I'd need to have either a .wav or 320kbps mp3.

From what I could tell, it doesn't sound bad (except for the cough in the background of the acoustic piece; don't send that out for mastering.) You're making good use of dynamics. The vocals might need to be made a little more prominent in the mix, but I'm not sure.

Seems like all the frequencies are squashed! Extremely thin sounding. I'd run it through an Aural Exciter to bring some life to them.

Can you describe your recording setup? To my ears, it sounds like everything was recorded live with just a room mic, with some additional micing for the vocals and guitar (or it's DI). It's harder to make out the drums and especially bass. I agree with DWBass above that everything sounds "thin" for those instruments, but think guitar and vox are good. Might be easily fixable with some mixing if the source tracks are decent, but I wouldn't know without seeing the audio data.

For comparison, feel free to take a listen here to the demo tracks my band recently recorded with a Presonus Firepod ("pro-sumer" level audio interface, and I'm the drummer and own/run the equipment).

Of course, I'm definitely an amateur, so take my feedback with a grain of salt ;-)
