But keep in mind, these are subjective opinions.
Watch your time, its moving. ALWAYS practice with a metronome until your internal clock is atomic. ( and even then I still use one for slap practice - i.e, things that are new to me ) .

However, I'm attributing most of this to your webcam speaker. Based on this, I imagine that if I were in that room hearing it live, the tone wouldn't be that bad.

You mean it's even treblier than that?..
I like trebly bass(oxymoron ), but more in the vein of early Tool - there's this top-end tinge, but these's still a fundamental present..this sounds kinda wiry to me..
..ahh hell, it sounds better than me at eighteen, lol!

Practice only, as far as the band goes, I prefer a cleaner mid heavy sound in the mix. All about preference, or, if in a band, how the sound is in the mix....
Keep practicing! If I may make some constructive critiques... Use a metronome/drum machine when you practice. Like most us of, it's easy enough to hold a groove until you add a fill or riff, and then well, time can wander, as it does in the clip. Its OK , it NORMAL. THis is when time becomes really important. Use a steady beat as a guide until time is buried in your consciousness. Coming out of that fill ( sorry I talk like a drummer ) or riff, the first beat of the next measure is key , HIT IT, even if it means losing the last note or two of the riff...
2.) USE YOUR PINKY!!!! It'll take a while to get the muscles right, but use it. When your playing gets better , you'll need it! Example, you slide up and hit the high D and slightly miss the C coming back down. If you were using your pinky, then your 3rd (ring) or 2nd finger could easily hit that C on the way back down... I still focus on 3/4th finger excersizes solely for a few minutes whe doing my "spiders". When you start playing faster and need to grab a 2nd octave above the 12th fret, that little pinky finger is KEY! Here's one, starting from the high G string using ONLY your 3/4 fingers starting at the 4th fret, come down to the E string on the 3/4 frets, so like B, Bb, then
F#/F and so forth, when you get to the E string, go back up to the G, shift your position up two frets and do it all again until you're well byond the 12th fret. I find coming down the strings backwards the hardest, so it's what I drill on.
I am not a good player... yet...so maybe some good ones here can help clarify better... But I hope I helped ya...
Remember, we are the timekeeper in the mix. I'm always playing off the drummer's snare on fills, so time has to be PRECISE!
Plus, when using a 'nome let's say you get the bassline done good at 100 bpm, then you can push it, 110, 120, 160!!! And that's how your chops will really get good quick with a precise refernce point.
PERFECT Practice make PERFECT playing. Half arsed practice makes wanky playing... you've got the feel,
NOW STOP READING AND PRACTICE PERFECTLY!!!
KEEP IT UP MAN!!!!!!

Strictly from a performance perspective, time feel is the most important part of rythm section playing. Your time is not good. Practice with a metronome and shed your butt off. You do not have command of your instrument. Fretting and picking are imprecise.
Who do you want to compare yourself to? Does that recording sound like a professional bass player?
Keep working, I love your spirit.
This is meant in only the most constructive way. Please take it like that.
Mentorship is a wonderful thing, find a good teacher!
