Rate my TONE!

Since I'm not one to take things personally and I'm interested in people's honest opinions, I'd love to know what you think of the my tone on this song. We recorded it in my basement with the aid of ProTools 7. We still have some work to do, but I think it's coming along. I don't care if you're not into this "style" of music or whatever... we're talkin' tone here! THANKS!

Follow this link and listen to "Meduso":

p.s. Make sure you listen through decent speakers! Very important!

sounds pretty good but to me sounds like an active bass recorded direct...maybe a warwick or a modulus

Sounds like a 5 string, and you state you have a Modulus 5 string.

Ill say its the Modulus.

Edit: Definitely the Modulus, that is a sweetspot Quantum.

Sorry, you ain't gonna get any strokes from me. Great tone is a P-Bass thru a B-15, (Jamerson) a Guild Starfire thru a Versatone, (Casady) or a crazy Guild/Alembic thru a stack of Fender Showmans (Lesh). And, no matter what else you do, if you use your thumb to play bass, other than to hold a pick, it really sounds like s**t! IMHO....

hmmm... yeah i guess close-mindedness could dampen your appreciation for other types of music, causing it to sound "like s**t". Victor Wooten definitely sounds like s**t!!

(btw, used thumb for about 2% of the track) Thanks for your honest opinion though oldtimer

Sound to much like "plastic" to me, best way I can describe it. The playing is killer though, I really dig the music.

I liked it quite a bit, both the tone and the song.

yeah, i thought so too

to OP: Don't take this as a diss but you sound pretty darn close to Flea. I like the sound for harder stuff though, idk how well it fits with this music. It's not bad at all, just not what I prefer for this style.

That having been said...

As a tone overall for different music styles, it gets a 9/10 from me

I think I definitely attacked the strings too hard in certain parts, which happens often if I don't give myself enough headroom to hear what I'm playing clearly. I'll go back in and mess around with some different techniques to try to fix that

I would say...very good.

Given that it's bitrate squashed, the original is probably excellent.

Decent tone. Not really my cup of tea, but it seems to sit well in the mix.
