Since I'm not one to take things personally and I'm interested in people's honest opinions, I'd love to know what you think of the my tone on this song. We recorded it in my basement with the aid of ProTools 7. We still have some work to do, but I think it's coming along. I don't care if you're not into this "style" of music or whatever... we're talkin' tone here! THANKS!

p.s. Make sure you listen through decent speakers! Very important!

Ill say its the Modulus.
Edit: Definitely the Modulus, that is a sweetspot Quantum.

Great tone is a P-Bass thru a B-15, (Jamerson) a Guild Starfire thru a Versatone, (Casady) or a crazy Guild/Alembic thru a stack of Fender Showmans (Lesh). And, no matter what else you do, if you use your thumb to play bass, other than to hold a pick, it really sounds like s**t! IMHO....

(btw, used thumb for about 2% of the track) Thanks for your honest opinion though oldtimer

to OP: Don't take this as a diss but you sound pretty darn close to Flea. I like the sound for harder stuff though, idk how well it fits with this music. It's not bad at all, just not what I prefer for this style.
That having been said...
As a tone overall for different music styles, it gets a 9/10 from me

I'll go back in and mess around with some different techniques to try to fix that

Given that it's bitrate squashed, the original is probably excellent. |
