The best place to start would be the videogame that is my namesake.

Although the mixes present in the game are better than the ones that were released on the ost, I would say that it it is a worthy place to start looking around.

Not all of the artists are, the songs used certainly swing to that side.

Honestly, the micro-genres in electronic music step all over each others feet more than than the death metal genus.

Justice, Daft Punk, Ratatat, MSTRKRFT, and LCD Soundsystem are some great electronic bands so start off. Ratatat in particular, however, has a great bass player- Evan Mast. Check 'em out.

From a historical standpoint, start with Kraftwerk and Yellow Magic Orchestra. For actual "techno" (the style that began in Detroit in the mid 1980s), there are three guys to check out: Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson. Find some Cybotron, Model 500 or Rhythim Is Rhythim (Derrick May). After that you have the whole Acid House thing with folks like Mr. Fingers ("Can U Feel It") and Pierre and later British artists such as A Guy Called Gerald ("Voodoo Ray") and 808 State ("Pacific 202", "Let Yourself Go", etc.). 808 State are probably the U.K.'s most successful "techno" act and their stuff is a lot "deeper" musically than most techno (check out the albums "Utd. State 90", "Ex:El" and "Don Solaris"). 808 are actually the ones who got Björk started on her electronic trip. Some decent acts from techno's heyday in the early 90s include LFO ("LFO", "Simon From Sydney"), Orbital ("Halcyon", "Forever"), Opus III ("It's A Fine Day", "Sea People", "Up"). You might also want to have a listen to Meat Beat Manifesto's "Satyricon" album. Otherwise, there are tons of artists out there: Autechre, Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, Richie Hawtin/Plastikman, Altern8, Dubtribe, Pentatonik...

Cool. I have some Daft Punk, and a disc by "Infected Mushroom" that has a weird girl/toon on the front.... but I've been craving a little more in that genre lately....

This is the one I have by IM:

I don't want to get into subsubsubsubgenre battles, but if you're just looking for electronic based music, Front Line Assembly, Skinny Puppy, Coil, The Legendary Pink Dots, Future Sound of London, and Ulver are some of my favourites.
