recognizable bass lines

Sign in to disble this ad
shortly put: what is the most recognizable bass line/song you know. it must be bass, so the seinfeld tune(played on keyboard), doesn't count

for me it would be: the cranberries - zombie

p.s. hope this is the right forum

p.p.s. this is problably a threat that has been done a few times, but hauling old threads up isn't really exciting most of the time, more fun to start a new one, or so I think.

It all depends on the audience. For example, how many classic rock fans would give each other a knowing look if I launched into 'So What' or 'All Blues', while how many jazz heads would prepare to rock when I hit the opening riff of 'Black Night'?

I agree with the WULFMAN, so I have put my votes by genre:

Classic Rock: Badge - Cream
Modern Blues: I Shiver - Robert Cray
Jazz/Fusion: Teen Town - Weather Report
Chicago Blues: Spoonful - Willie Dixon
Soul / R&B: Bernadette - James Jamerson
Jazz: A Night in Tunisia - Coleman Hawkins

probably 'So What'. Also deserving mention: 'Birdland', 'Come As You Are', 'Number of the Beast', 'Another One Bites the Dust'. I'm trying to think of songs where it's the bass only, not the bass following a guitar riff (hence, 'Black Dog' does not qualify).

about the audience we're talking about...some metalheads may recognize one band, and other metalheads may not...we should restrict ourselves to people who don't intensively follow and know about one kind of music, most people know a few tunes of britney spears, quite a lot of those don't actively listen to britney spears
