Hi Everyone and Merry Christmas,
My favourite Christmas song has always been O Holy Night. I tried to download a copy from iTunes and I got every obnoxious pop star known to man. Can anyone recommend a good version of this song thats not by Avril Lavigne or Reba McEntire?
Thanks
Mike

Happy is the best kept secret in music. Great voice, interesting music, zero commercial success. My favorite album of hers is "Warpaint" (I love them all!), but "Rhodesongs" is a good starter compilation.

Also, I love the version by N'Sync. It's just a nice acapella arrangement. You have to get past the pop inflections sometimes...there are videos of other groups on youtube doing the same arrangement that sound much better.
I'm recording a Christmas album with a friend of mine too. Bass and piano. Ours will be the best. Just sayin'

I've played Christmas Eve at our chruch for the last 15 years and every year I get a new copy of some diva going way over-the-top on this very beautiful song. And someone wants to do it just like that. Ick.
I like the Piano/Bass idea above. A minimal arrangement could be very touching. Or think about how your favorite band would play it, then give it a tweak. (Could that possibly be Phish?!?)
There's also a lot of chord charts and arrangements for it out on the web.

So, with an open mind, check out this very emotional version - [ click]
Sorry, the audio quality is poor, but it came from a widely circulated tape which has achieved cult status over the years.
While it may not be one for the "Holiday Mix" you play for the family on Christmas morning, it is among my personal favorites, and always brings tears to my eyes. Enjoy! |

Thanks
Mike

[not finding it on youtube, however...]

Not what you're looking for but in my band we have a three female vocalists who can nail the harmonies. Sounds great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msMxh7m7vY4 |
