Recommend me some 7-string bands

Sign in to disble this ad
I am looking at getting into an originals band and I just found out the guitarist(s) use 7 string guitars.

I've not listened to a lot of bands with that setup, and I think Tool and Meshuggah use 7-strings, but I wouldn't mind hearing more.

Can anyone recommend some 7-string guitarists and bands to listen to.

Any genre, I'm not fussy as I need to get my ears used to listening to that whole 7-string/5-string low B type music.

Thanks!

Doh! again. Twice. I didn't know they used 8's, and if someone threatened my life to answer whether there were 8 string guitars correctly, I'd have been guessing!

Don't forget the great granddaddy of 7 stringers, George Van Eps.

Charlie Hunter you could try, but I think his is an eight string - 3 bass and 5 treble.

I'm pretty sure FLAW (awesome band!) plays 7 strings,...

awesome bass lines in there too

love this song

also can't think of any right now but im pretty sure alot of 90's metal bands got into the 7 string stuff?

I thought coal chamber did but they just play in A,E,A,D,G,B apparently... same stuff sorta :P I quite like coal chamber (loco, my frustration, clock, I, dark days, not living... just a few there)

apparently fear factory, lacuna coil and deftones as well

the number one band that came to mind was korn

How good are you anyways? I dont want you trying to learn Dance of Eternity and failing miserably and getting discouraged.

Meh. I'm too old to get discouraged anymore. I'm currently failing miserably learning YYZ for my drummer and loving every minute of it, despite being stuck on the first quick bass run

I like The Glass Prison. I'll check them other tunes out.

Thanks

A whole lot of doom, sludge, death, stoner, etc groups play detuned 6 strings that are the equivalent of a 7 string without the high E. Just sayin.

Coal Chambers earlier stuff is BEADGB (on the guitar anyways, the bass is just BEAD iirc). Theres one intro where he drones the G and plays a note on the high b and gets a cool warble.

Found it! "Loco": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLOYw_y0B9k

Im pretty sure Devildriver is B standard, but not quite sure.

Devin Townsend/Strapping Young Lad's newer stuff (The New Black and Ziltoid The Omniscient) are done on 7 strings. (although he tunes in 5ths)

Meshuggah use 8 strings now but played 7s before that.
