Can somebody recommend me some electronica/trip-hop ? Something along the lines of the Sneaker Pimps and Portishead. I like to try and figure out the basslines and they're fun to play along with.

Protection is sligthly behind. The Protection Remix is awesome though. More of a dub vibe. Solaris - Original Soundtrack. Tripy ambient. Biosphere - Microgravity. Space ambient. Bit like Blade Runner / Solaris. Bjork - Post. Probably the most accessible. Verspertine being my fave, but it's 'weird' Tricky - Maxinquaye. A reference in the genre. It's got some stuff with basslines too. Blade Runner - OST. Another reference in the genre. Tricky - Product Of The Environment. Very weird spoken words + music. Famous English gansters re-telling their lives with ambient background. Yann Tiersen - Le Phare. Weird mix of pop, classical, ambient. Same guy who did the Amelie Poulain OST. Cinematic Orchestra - Remixes. Mix of trip hop, jazz and ambient. Very good. Remixes being my favorite.
mind you, there aren't many interesting basslines there Cinematic Orchestra being the most interesting, it's got lots of jazz influence. You can always improvise on top though. It's all good for tripy bass lines. Tricky has a more conventional format, and some cool basslines in there too.

Plaid, Autechre, Boards of Canada
I don't know, I don't know the genre(s) too well.

Boards of Canada-Music Has The Right To Children
That's really all you need.

Mind you, it is a stormer! | Yeah, I didn't point to one album in particular, I think the collections are a bit weak tbh, but he has some awesome ambient stuff. Some of it is, meh... It's just would not be my pick. There are some glaring misses in the Selected Ambient Work II, and lots of fillers.
I think the 85-92 collection is all right, if a bit too much DnB.
Oh, also Goldfrapp - Supernature. Not exactly trip-hop ambient, more like trip-pop. But definitely good to jam with. But this is sort of veering away from the original request

And perhaps the U.N.K.L.E. Psyence Fiction album. And maybe Lovage's "Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By." |

Homogenous is my second favorite of hers.
Mezzanine is also fantastic- I had to buy a second copy when my friend ran off to North Dakota with mine |
