Lightbulb Recommend some basslines with cool use of slash chords/alternate bass notes

In my opinion, figuring out when alternate bass notes sound good as got to be one of the hardest aspects of writing pop/rock bass lines. What are your favourite rock/pop lines with a bunch of neat slash chords?

Personally I can only think of two at the moment.

I have no idea how Queen's John Deacon figured to pull a C/G in the pre-chorus sections of "Those are the days of or lives" but it sounds pretty damn great.

As a big Faith No More fan I also like the fact that most of the "magic" of "Midlife Crisis" comes from Billy Gould staying on the low E for pretty much the entire song regardless of what chords are played by keys and guitar.

Anyone? Bueller?

I don't know the chords per say, but my friend was really big on the band "Squeeze" for a while, and the song "Tempted" has that a lot I guess.

By slash chords do you mean tritones, or whatever it is their called?

Code:
G ----5-
D ---4--
A --3---
E ------

'Gross chord in C'
If that's what you mean, the only thing I can't think of off the top of my head is a short section in the chorus of John Mayer's "3x5" where there's a pretty disonant chord, could be a tritone?

In my disonance-loving previous band, we fooled around in tritones all the time, but we weren't pop-rock, that's for sure.

And actually, if anyone knows the correct name for such a chord, what is it?

I think he's talking about a chord where the root note isn't the bass note.

Anthony Jackson does that a lot. Actually, jazz and "fusion" music also contains a lot of slash chords.
