Recording audio to Video.

First off I have a degree in Media Studies, and I know my way around editing software, but I can not seem to match the board mix to the video (different recording speed) My fortey is editing not recording so I'm not really sure how to over come this problem. There is only so much eqing you can do to make a on board mic sound good. I have a nice Cannon Camera with audio in but again the recording speed never matches. Any hints or anything to help this maybe a plug in or something? Know it's a long shot but I had to at least try. Here is a rough of what I get with an eq on my little camcorder without the audio in.
