Recording for the first time...

So, today we had a practice and invited a friend of the guitarist to come sit and listen. This friend went to school for recordings and is very serious about it. We basically wanted to see if he liked what he heard and if he'd be down for helping us record.

Soo, we rocked. He said he dug our tunes and we are going to record at progressive studio in Elizabethtown, Pa. one month from now.

I was wondering if anyone who had experience with recording would share a few tips for a fellow bassist. Anything at all.

Now i have a few songs that are very improvised bass wise, and Im not too sure how to go about recording. Should i compose what i think sounds good for the recording, or just go and groove?

Otherwise share some recording studio stories...

practice, practice, practice!

I wouldn't consider myself extremely knowledgeable when it comes to recording, but i have some experience. As far as a band goes, try to get all the arrangements down ahead of time. Get your parts as polished as possible. Time is literally money when you're in the studio.

When it comes to the parts that you would normally improvise, it might be a good idea to prepare a part to lay down. Do a couple takes improvising and fall back on your prepared part if time is running short. Or, better yet lay down the prepared part first and if time permits go back and rework your parts if you feel it necessary.
