Recording Help Please

New to recording bass. Have an interface, when i record straight into the interface w my bass the signal is low. That's my main problem for now. I've done a little reading and just want things clear for myself.

I have a ampeg svt vr, now i can get the preamp out into a DI then into the interface. that correct? assuming the DI is my missing element to boost signal.
Bass, Amp, Preamp to DI, DI to interface?
Or is it just bass, DI, interface?

Appreciate your time and help.

If you're using the Ampeg Head, there's no need for a DI. In fact your Head has a built-in DI. Use the amp's XLR balnced output to connect to the interface.
What interface are you using?

You should be able to connect your bass straight into the front inputs of the interface and get a good enough signal. just make sure you adjust the gain level to boost the signal, but being careful not to to distort/clip the input.

If you turn the gain trim knob, and still get a low signal, make sure that the pad button is set to its IN position.

How are you connecting to the interface? What kind of cable are you using?

If you connect straight into the interface with a 1/4" cable, the PAD/INST button has to be set to the IN position. Then turn the GAIN TRIM knob clockwise until you get a strong signal.

How are you listening to the interface, headphones or monitors?

This should be in the Recording Gear section.

Not familiar with the Impact Twin. Does the input allow you to toggle between a mic input and a hi-z input? Is there an input gain adjustment on the interface? Is the signal weak in your DAW, or is it weak coming out of your speakers/monitors/headphones?

Try going direct into the interface and see if you get a strong signal.

If you're connecting with XLR from the amp output and getting a weak signal, set the PAD/INST to its OUT position and turn up the GAIN TRIM knob. If the signal is still weak the you need to adjust the level potentiometer on the back of your SVT.

Silky, the TC twin uses the PAD/INST button to toggle between High-Z and Low-Z when using a 1/4" input.

Definitely try straight into the interface with the instrument switch engaged (Thanks for the clarification Hellbastard). Adjust the input gain accordingly, and you should be good to go.

That should be as good as it gets if the SVT's preamp section isn't a tonal requirement for what you're trying to accomplish.
