Recording live

Hi Talkbass,
my band are goping to be recording next weekend, and am just looking for advice.
We did a couple of tracks December last year which you can hear on our Myspace (www.myspace.com/mojudas the 1st two tracks) which came out ok, but not exactley how we wanted despite constantly asking the two guys who were recording us (mates, never ask mates again!) to be in on the mixing. Stuff like the drums sounding weak, guitars not quite bright enough, having to trigger the drums to get them to cut through properly (Im not keen on triggering)...

Anyhow, we are approaching it differently this time mostly because thats how the engineer wants to do it, and are recording live with solo's and extra vox etc being overdubbed.
What I would like to know is are there any pitfalls to look out for. Any sage advice worth keeping in mind?
I have better feelings about it this time as I know the engineer knows his stuff, but want to make sure every angle is covered by being prepared, and nothing left to chance.

Thanks in advance. Any comments welcome.

Andy

Know what you want. (You seem to)
Be able to produce it. (Dookie in...dookie out)
The creative process does not have to end at the studio door. (Sometimes chance is a good thing)

Don't bury the drum mix again.
