recording my bass

Hello friends, I am about to hit the studio with my band again. This will be the third studio we have hit. Of course I have already recorded my bass twice before, so I already know what to kind of expect. I just want to get recording ideas from other bassist who have successfully recorded and was extremely happy with their sound and how it was mixed. I have recorded direct from my bass and direct from my head. Both previous places did not want to a cab during tracking. What do you think? Cab? No cab? How did you do your tracks? As said before I'm just curious as to how other bassist went about recording.

I don't know much about this. But if you want the way your amp sound live on the recordings mic'ing up your cabs are the only way to go. It might add to the live feel if that's what you are trying to obtain. Other ways I can't see it matters much as long as it sounds good and feels right. I guess the direct approach leaves more control of the sound though, and that it's more or less the standard.
