I've always loved the sound of Spectors, so I'm looking for albums where the bass player was playing a Spector.
I enjoy listening to how the bass sits in the mix and Spectors tend to be easily identifiable. It gives me something to focus my ADD/OCD brain on.
Here's some off the top of my head:
Loverboy - everything
Queensryche - everything until the mid 90's
Dave Larue - Hub City Kid
Steve Morse Band - Coast to Coast, Southern Steel
Dixie Dregs - Bring 'Em Back Alive
Skid Row - Skid Row |

One of the most vicious bass tones I've ever heard. Incredible, gutsy growl. High in the mix too.

I'm a big fan of Living Colour. I prefered the stuff they did with Muzz Skillings, but also like Doug Wimbush too. He had a much more agressive tone that cut through the mix, obviously.
Queensryche's "Operation Livecrime" has been showing this weekend on VH1 Classic and Eddie Jackson's Spector tone really helps carry the songs, IMHO. |
