I haven't been an REM fan for long, but when I picked up their new album today, I was absolutely FLOORED by the quality and tastefulness of Mike Mills' bass playing on this album. Was anyone else as taken aback as I was?

Indeed. Mills's playing on Accelerate is phenomenal. This album seems to have freed him up from all of the keyboard work he'd been doing on the last 3 albums, and it sounds like Mills may be back on Bass duties full-time again. It sounds like he's having an absolute blast. Additionally, this is probably the first album from this band since the mid-'80's where the bass has really popped through the mix, which makes it an EXCELLENT listen for bass players.

Highly recommended, even if you aren't an REM fan. 11 tracks in just under 36 minutes. Rock on.

Been an REM fan for about 20 years now and from what I can remember this is the best I have heard Mills sound. I probably need to go back and relisten to their other albums to make an accurate assesment but from what I remember I can't think of any albums where he sounds this good. He does some sweet stuff in some of these songs.

I finally got ahold of this CD. Tons of fun to listen to and just exhilirating from a bass standpoint, not only for the busy-yet-tasteful parts but for the mix! The bass is so upfront. This one is going to be in constant rotation for a while.
